Alina Rudnick 3D typography Concepts for: "Mind, Body, & Soul"

Alina Rudnick

My concept was to use the three words: Mind, Body, and Soul. I thought it would be interesting to represent each along with the word. I wanted to have these be put in glass/plastic 3d cut outs of the words and put the representation I had for the words, inside of the 3d text. These would be glued to a piece or hard paper or even wood or something similar. I'm not sure if I want to actually have something for "and" or the ampersand so for now that is up in the air.

for Mind: I thought of the idea of "thoughts" and thinking in general so I wanted to take little clipart cut out "speech bubbles" or"thought bubbles" to place inside of the mind words. How small or large they are will depend on how large or small I can make the actual 3d letters. I decided to leave them blank to represent more of the general idea of thoughts and to not take too much away form the word itself.

for Body: I wanted to think of things that made up the body I thought up either blood or bones. For blood I would take water and fill up the word with it and add some red food coloring to make it look like blood and fill up the word. Otherwise I thought of bones, maybe small chicken bones I can clean and put inside of the letters in order to make it seem like the outside letterforms are the skin and inside are the bones of the word.

for Soul: I always think of a soul being someone's life energy or light inside a person, thus I wanted to use lightbulbs inside of the letters to make that glow. I'm not sure yet if I want to use larger bulbs or if I want to do small christmas tree looking lights, but it will be something like that. I am also debating adding small sheets of tracing paper inside the letters, over the lights to give a kind of ethereal, faded look that I think more represents the soul.

Moodboard:

here is my moodboard that shows the way I want to display the pieces as well as possible examples to use when I am actually making the materials to put inside the letters. I want to use a sans serif, clean legible font like gotham or helvetica but I am open to other options.

Written/sketched out concepts:
here it shows my general concepts as well as how I plan to execute the specific visual and technical aspects of my ideas.
