This is lovely. Try to introduce the serif face (Caslon) into the first spread and perhaps not stark white behind the type. Having the white background only under the icons might be interesting... not sure. In the timeline, "world" and "United States" should probably be stronger, either larger or a different or some distinguishing treatment. Great image research!
