Textbook Round 2 - Alina Rudnick
For the revision of part 1, I decided to take many of your critiques to heart, as as I've said previously, this type of design formatting is not my fortè. I replaced Benjamin Franklin with Condensed Din as well as Din alternate. I also saved the paint method exclusively for the images, and created a grid for a better structure. Overall I am far more pleased with this result but I am still graciously accepting critique.

For the concept of my textbook is copying the feeling of the wild west. Thus I used a kind of rustic color palette for my piece. I also didn't want to go overboard on visuals because I know in this case the formatting of the text and layout is more important, thus I made one image to really stand out and the rest was focused on text and alignment. For the image to make it less jarring, I took the photo, image traced it on illustrator then cleaned it up before using one of my photoshop brushes to add a sort of painted feel, so it still felt a little more illustrated rather than fully graphic.
ReplyDeleteYou have strongly improved the spread with the changes you have made. Your reasoning makes sense and the design, lay-outs and illustrations have evolved. Consider making the reddish/rust color more saturated and the brown used in bars behind text darker (darker in the solid color shape behind text) aiming for a vibrant color palette. Your subheads would benefit from being bolder, as would any of the the solid color behind "Chapter" could be a deeper brown. The deeper rust red behind "What Will You Learn" is stronger. Consider using that for the image treatments. The base colors are beautiful but would benefit from being more saturated, darker and more vibrant. "Animated Geography" should be on a single line; the vocabulary words do not need to be bold or at least quite as bold as they are at present. Consider making the rule around vocabulary lighter. You can send me an update for more feedback if there is time in your schedule.
