Leah Davis - 3D Type Moodboard & 1 Letter
My concept for this project was to create calligraphy letter out of cat food and then see how my cat reacted to it when I let him near it. I was going to spell out either the word "kitty" or "kibble" if done fully. Surprisingly, this was really difficult to get right. I think it could still use some tweaking, however for a first attempt it turned out pretty nicely. I believe it would be fun to spell out the whole word this way and see how it looked with things connecting and flowing together.
I used some basic food 3D type I found online as inspiration.
Initially, I was going to try something like one of the middle two, where it was a full spread of food and I would create the letters in the negative space. However, I tried this and the calligraphy/cursive style wasn't working with the layout, so I resorted to spelling the letters out themselves with the food.
The thicks and thins of upstrokes and downstrokes definitely gave this an added challenge. I had fun trying to dig through my cats bag of food finding broken pieces to fill in gaps. Like I said before, this could definitely use some work, however I'm happy with how it turned out!
P.S. Halfway through this project, my cat decided to run across it and completely ruin it causing me to start from scratch and when I actually let him near the finished one, he couldn't have given less of a crap :)

Each example has it's charms, tipping it to understand your cat's influence is cool. The form is working well with the food content.
ReplyDeleteOnce you have the word, we can provide more feedback than we did in class. Unless you're worried about what your cat eating, it might be interesting to see what they "preferred." :)
